Hi!! Happy Hump Day!!! I started this day off with of course a workout; ran 2 miles, then got in a bodyweight circuit that lasted about 30 minutes! 🙂 After that, I was ready for whatever this day has to throw at me!
To continue on in sharing all about our Disney Fairytale Wedding, this post will be about the steps leading up to planning our dream day! Now, with Disney Fairytale Weddings, you can only actually hold your wedding date at exactly 12 months out, but can begin talking with a wedding coordinator at 16 months out and discuss your options, without making any real decisions yet. Disney makes planning a wedding from far away so enjoyable, and less stressful than I thought wedding planning would be.
Right after getting engaged in Disney, people started asking us “when is the big day?”, which we hadn’t even talked about! But, after a little time after letting our engagement sink in, we decided on a May wedding because my parents’ anniversary is in May, and my sister & my brother in law’s anniversary also is in May, so I thought it would be cute if we all had the same month to celebrate! We picked May 22, 2016, because I liked the sound of that date, or realistically, any date within that week.
Since we were staying right next to the Wedding Pavilion in the Grand Floridian Villas after getting engaged, Michael and I took frequent walks to visit it to admire its gorgeousness. I was completely set on having my dream Disney wedding, but we just had to get my Mom & Dad on board with that! 😉
As the days returning home seemed like years at a time, I tried to contact Disney Fairytale Weddings but was a little discouraged knowing that at 16 months out I could only begin discussing options. I just wanted to start the planning already! I was then contacted by my fabulous wedding consultant Pam Pearce, who was beyond amazing! We had a few bumps in the road; my parents wanted me to get married closer to home at first, so that all of our family and friends could come celebrate with us and see us get married, but I kept pushing for Disney. They also were skeptical because you could only secure your wedding date 12 months out, and we were adamant to stick to the budget…and with Disney being expensive as it is, we were a little discouraged that we wouldn’t be able to stick to it. I emailed Pam back and forth, scheduled endless amounts of phone calls with her by myself, calls with her and my (now) husband, calls with her and my parents…all trying to understand how we could actually afford a Disney wedding, if this was something we all wanted, and of course totally convince my parents that Disney was the answer and the only wedding I wanted!! 😉 Every time I got off the phone or received an email from Pam I felt more and more confident in my decision to get married in Disney World.
We decided on a Wishes Wedding because we wanted immediate family and friends there, so when we added it all up it totaled about 30 people. Pam explained to me that if other couples requested the same day as you, then you will go into a lottery and they will pick a name. She also explained that the Grand Floridian Ballrooms (where we were thinking of having our reception) hosts conventions, so it might be taken by a convention on the date we requested. (SO stressful waiting to see if we got “our date” by the way, which we didn’t, but it was even better than imagined!)
Disney Fairytale Weddings allows you to have a site visit where you can pick venues to look at in order to figure out where you want to hold your ceremony, reception, rehearsal dinner, and any other function like a dessert party, or a welcome breakfast, etc. Michael & I chose to take our site visit trip during the month of April, actually during my birthday week, so that way we could celebrate two things; being engaged, and my birthday!
Upon arriving at Franck’s Studio, Pam greeted us and walked us over to the Wedding Pavilion. It is SO breathtakingly gorgeous!! I know the Wedding Pavilion has gone through a very big change since we have gotten married there, but I was totally in love with everything about it then, and am in love with it now too!
The only other sites we wanted to see were the ballrooms at the Grand Floridian, since we wanted our wedding ceremony and reception to be close to each other so that way our guests don’t have to travel in between. She showed us all of the large ballrooms, as well as the amazingly beautiful Whitehall Room & Patio. The second I saw that room, I fell in love!
After our site visit with Pam, we headed to the lobby of the Grand Floridian to meet with a perspective officiant for our wedding, Timothy Herring, who is such a sweetheart and who we adored. We still wanted to meet with other officiants on our next trip for our planning session, so we didn’t make any decisions yet. During our chat with Tim, he told me about the amazing Disbrides community, and told me to join the group once we return home. I will forever be grateful to him for telling me about this, because if we had not met him and hadn’t been introduced to the community, I honestly couldn’t have planned the wedding we had. I am so thankful that I am apart of the forever Disbride Sisterhood, and especially thankful for our Fairy Godmother herself! (Big shoutout to Lisa!) 🙂
Once getting back home, and once I was apart of the Disbride community, I was fully immersed into planning mode. I scheduled many more phone calls with Pam, and crossed my fingers that we would be able to get married on the day (or week) we wanted! I started many notebooks, planners, binders, and ALL THINGS wedding!! I couldn’t help myself! My dream of being the Princess Bride in Disney was going to come true!
