My Disney Fairytale Wedding (My dress)

Hi friends! Happy first day of summer! Woohoooo! It certainly feels like today should be Friday, don’t you think? I can’t believe it is only Wednesday. Bummmmer. Anyways, this morning started off with a 45 minute cardio & abs workout followed by an easy 1.5 mile run.

Since it is Wednesday, today’s post will be another about our wedding! Missed any of the other posts? You can read them here: part 1, part 2, and part 3!

My dress story is a pretty funny one. After we got engaged I waited about 3 months to go dress shopping with my mom and my sister. We went to a local bridal boutique, Elizabeth Ann’s Bridal Boutique. (I highly recommend going there if you live in the area, they are amazing, and go above and beyond for their brides!!) During my first dress shopping experience, I tried on a bunch of dresses and finally found “the” dress (or what I thought was “the” dress at the moment) when I put on an Allure ballgown. Both my mom & my sister agreed that this was for sure “my dress.” it was the total princess-y, poofy, Disney-like dress that I pictured a bride would wear in Disney World. I also found my beautiful cathedral length veil that had sparkles all over, as well as my gorgeous tiara, which both totally made me feel like a bride.

Here I am with “my dress”! (I don’t have a picture of myself in it anymore)img_6801-1

This was my dress, or so I thought.

My dress came in my size about a month later. I went to the bridal boutique with my mom and tried it on…it was pretty still. But I didn’t have that “OMG” feeling anymore when I put the dress on.

After that appointment, I started looking at different dresses online and in magazines, and began to have a love for mermaid/fit and flare style dresses. I was so disappointed in the dress that I had ordered already because it just made me look like a huge marshmallow. I mean, I work out every day….why not get a dress that shows off my body, right?!

I went to a different local bridal store with my sister for her to try on bridesmaids dresses. But, secretly I knew they had a certain dress that I wanted to try on. It was a Maggie Sottero mermaid style dress that I thought looked absolutely beautiful. I tried it on (of course my sister was like OMG what are you doing!? You have your dress!!) silly me, how could I not try that dress on? I fell in love with that style dress, and called Elizabeth Ann’s to explain what was going on. They were totally understanding and made me an appointment to go in with my mom, try my dress on again, and try on others with the style that I now liked.

I felt so bad, because my mom had already bought me this beautiful ballgown that I didn’t like anymore. What was I supposed to do with TWO dresses?!? I couldn’t return it, so I would have to try to sell it online. I was very discouraged because I would have to be purchasing this second dress if I found one, so my eyes were glued to the price tags.

The owner of the boutique, Kelly, showed me a gorgeous Madison James dress (style MJ08) that I instantly fell in love with. When I tried it on I was just glowing. I felt so pretty, and definitely like a bride.

I was obsessed with the detail of the lace on the front of the dress, and even more obsessed with the BACK, and the way the buttons went all the way down!

THIS was my dress!!! I was tearing up, and my mom was too. I was so torn because I didn’t want to have two dresses, and had no idea who would buy the ballgown dress off of me. The store couldn’t take it back because it was not a size that others could try on. Kelly (the owner) disappeared and went upstairs to call the designer. She came back down and told us that the designer would take my dress back (OMG) and I could purchase this beautiful Madison James as if I didn’t have that ballgown too. This was a miracle!!!!!! Kelly is the sweetest and I am just so thankful she had done that for me!

I went back to the boutique a week later with my dad to show him the dress. He approved 🙂

My dress came in a couple weeks after ordering, and was totally more in LOVE with it in my size! YAY!!

I had about four dress fittings at the boutique with their seamstress Larissa (I am unsure of the spelling of her name), who was amazing at what she does! The boutique actually shipped my dress and veil for me to Florida to Carolyn Allen’s (who steamed my dress and brought it to me on the morning of my wedding day…I highly recommend them also!)

This was for sure the most perfect princess dress for me!!

I hope you all have a fabulous day!! Don’t forget to sparkle 🙂 xoxo
