Weekend Recap & thoughts on resting

Good morning! Happy Monday!! I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was a great one, but didn’t involve lots of pictures, so I apologize in advance 😉

Before jumping into the weekend recap, I wanted to talk or write, I guess, about resting. I hardly ever let myself truly “rest”, because no matter what if I am just laying on the couch watching tv, to me, that means I am being “lazy”. Only sometimes do I truly “let” myself rest. Yes, I know I usually write on here that I “relaxed” and “rested”, but I don’t really know when there was a time when I really just rested or relaxed without feeling anxious and like I had to get moving. A great example is when I hurt my foot, remember? I was beyond upset that I wasn’t able to run, and I was super anxious that I wouldn’t be able to workout at all, and not to mention before I got it checked out I thought I would forever not be able to run. However, it turned out the foot injury didn’t stop me from working out. The day after it happened, I just did an ab workout because I didn’t want to put pressure on it, the next day after that I didn’t force sneakers on, but still did a bodyweight workout. Finally Friday morning I could get a sneaker on (with hardly any pain..winning!) and walked on the treadmill. Probably wasn’t the best idea. But I did it anyways, and my foot didn’t hurt worse afterwards. It helped that the P.A. at Urgent Care told me that I could start the treadmill again once I felt ready to. By that Saturday, I was able to run, but I wasn’t doing my usual runs or HIIT workouts, and yes I was mad at myself. Because, let’s be honest there is always that thought that “I could do more, I could try harder, I could do a longer workout, or I could do a more intense workout.” Okay, I’m sure you’re all thinking “Get to the point Kayla”…

All day this past Friday I had a bad headache, and woke up with an even worse headache Saturday morning. Now usually, I would wake up at my normal time of 6/6:15 and workout, but when I woke up I felt so disgusting by this headache that I truly just wanted to go back to sleep. To be honest, the thought of running on the treadmill while feeling my head pounding/bouncing around wasn’t sounding too great. And, to my surprise, you know what I did? I went back to sleep. Yeah, I sort of told myself I was being “super lazy, unmotivated, and I would regret it later.” But by the time I fell back asleep and woke back up, I was fine with my decision of sleeping in, because there was a whole day ahead of me with time to workout. I actually let myself rest on Saturday morning.

Getting that extra hour and a half of sleep was magical and just what I needed. I even got to snuggle with Michael when he got home from work (he works nights)…which never happens. I was still suffering with this headache when I woke up, but I took some Excedrin Migraine (which usually does the trick, but didn’t). And even though I wouldn’t have regretted if I did workout, I don’t regret sleeping in and not working out first thing in the morning.

Even still, throughout the day I got in lots of walking (I walk around our store, reading my Kindle when I am there, especially when Mama goes on her lunch). When I got out of work I went to Target with my sister, hung out at her house for a little while, went to the grocery store really quick for a fruit plate, and then picked up a salad for dinner later on. My headache subsided by late afternoon, and I was feeling better. When I got home I made up a quick workout of: 30 high knees, 30 jumping jacks, 30 squats, and 30 standing side crunches (30 on each side), and repeated that circuit 3 times through. See, even though I didn’t workout first thing in the morning, I still got my sweat on! The rest of the night was spent at my parent’s house, then snuggling in my bed watching a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie on tv before falling asleep 🙂

Day four (Saturday) I was thankful for days when I can sleep in and only having to be at work for 10am.

Sunday was glorious. Did anyone else feel recharged and ready to go after that extra hour of sleep that was given to us because of changing the clocks back an hour?! I know I did (and it probably helped that the day before I slept in a bit too). Even though I was wide awake at 5:00 (which is normally 6), I managed to get another hour of sleep in. Once I was up, I was craving a really good, and sweaty workout. I hopped on the treadmill for a 50 minute run and was for sure one sweaty mess afterwards. I ended up doing 5.2 miles. Woo! It was a great start to the day!

Later in the morning I went to the grocery store with my Dad, then went over my sister’s house to run around with the boys playing “rockets”.

I took Gio to Target to get him a new toy since he is such a good boy, he picked out Bumper Cars for both him and Enzo, which silly Auntie forgot the batteries. (Have no fear, I will bring them today) After that I picked them up some lunch and brought him home.

The rest of the day was spent with Michael! We ran errands, hung up one of our canvas pictures in the living room, decorated a little for Christmas (minus that new Christmas tree we are going to get soon), watched football and watched The Dark Tower before bed. (Which, I had no idea was freaky and creepy and all wrong…it should have been a horror movie. I was covering my eyes right away in the first 5 minutes. After that, I pretty much zoned out for the rest of the movie. Sorry, not sorry. This girl does NOT like creepy, freaky, evil movies. That is exactly what it was: good vs.evil, and the evil was EVIL. However, give me a mystery/horror BOOK and I am all about them!) Funny thing is, if I just googled the movie beforehand, I would have known I didn’t want to see it. Haha.

Day five (Sunday) I was thankful for having Michael home with me!

This morning I woke up craving another awesome workout! I threw a load of laundry in before (which, by the way, was my WHITES I’ve been saving since like when we got home from Disney, and to my surprise they are still WHITE! Yippee!!) , then got to it! I ran for 30 minutes, and was so into the new book I started, The Girl Before, (Julie recommended this book, so naturally I got it right away!),  I kept on going with incline walking until hitting the 60 minute mark, totaling in at 5 miles. And, just like yesterday, I was one sweaty sweaty mess after. 😉

I’m very glad today is a true day off from anything, I don’t have work or any appointment to get to. I happily sipped my delicious DD coffee and watched Live with Kelly & Ryan without having to rush around to get anywhere before finishing up this post. Michael and I have a date planned for tonight, and I am excited! img_2623

I spy with my brown eyes, a new Christmas table runner!

Today (day six) I am thankful for days off from work! What are you thankful for?

Have a great day!!! Xoxo ♥♥
