Helllooo! Happy Monday to you! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I am still weekending/vacationing over here, since I’m off from work until Wednesday! Woo! I’m going to share my weekend recap with you all tomorrow, because today I wanted to talk about something I love: working out!
My workouts last week definitely did not look like normal, given the fact that we traveled and were in Disney World. So, I wanted to talk a little about what they looked like during our short getaway. I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again, I like to try to stay at a resort that has a gym, since not every resort has one, but since we are Annual Passholders we have the perks to go workout in any health club on Disney property! Score!! Luckily, Fort Wilderness Lodge has a health club inside it’s new DVC location, Boulder Ridge Villa’s at the Wilderness Lodge!
Now, guys, you know this, when I am home I usually workout everyday, and if I don’t I am usually pretty tough on myself. If I don’t workout I feel super lazy and just all around blah. But on vacation, I try not to put so much pressure on myself to workout every single day, because..well, we are on vacation. And especially in Disney, all we are doing is walking around, and I actually end up losing weight no matter how long we go to Disney for. Not that my goal is to do that, but I do like to keep up a workout routine and not get out of it, ever. So, as you can imagine that when we are on vacation, there is a pretty good chance I am going to hit up the fitness center/health center at least once!
With that being said, let’s rewind to last Monday, the morning we were leaving for the airport. I woke up at 4am because we were getting picked up at 5:30, and since I knew I would be sitting in the plane for hours (5 and half whole hours to be exact), I wanted to get some stretching in before we left. So, I got my yoga mat out and did some yoga stretching before getting ready to head out. Sitting for those 5 and a half hours was so hard and left my body feeling all sorts of achy and painful; my knees hurt, my butt was asleep, and my hips were tight. I did get up only once during the flight to use the bathroom, but other than that I was sitting for a very long time. Luckily, once we landed we did lots and lots of walking around the park that first day we got there. My Apple Watch actually tracked us doing 12,000 steps from the time we landed (1:30) to the time we went back to our room to sleep (9:00ish). Now, we all know these watches are not accurate at all (I can be running on the treadmill and have already done 2 miles, but my watch thinks I am far behind at 1 mile still, lol), so I wasn’t relying on that to tell me how much we were walking, but it gave me an idea. On both Tuesday and Wednesday my watch told me we did over 20,000 steps…holy moly! At home, I normally log anywhere from 12,000-14,000 steps on my watch. Anyways, I think you can all get the idea of how much you really walk in Disney!
Tuesday morning I woke up ready to hit up the fitness center, Sturdy Branches Health Club!
Sturdy Branches is a pretty good size, and very clean fitness center that has cardio machines (my favorite), free weights, and weight machines. It is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, and is accessed by the use of your magic band. It reminded me of the fitness center at the Grand Floridian, but newer. I snapped some pictures of it, but since I didn’t want to be a creeper and take pictures of the men that were in there, I took pictures of everything I could without getting them in the picture, lol. Luckily, they were all on one side of the room, so I took pictures of everything else!
For my workout, I did the elliptical (which I miss VERY much, by the way) for 25 minutes, and walked on an incline on the treadmill for 20 minutes. I called it a day when I looked at the clock and realized I needed to get in the shower, get ready, and head over for our breakfast at the Grand!! I was a glistening, sweaty mess afterwards 😉
Wednesday and Thursday morning I worked up a sweat in our room upon waking up, putting a towel on the floor in our room to do some planks, mountain climbers, crunches, push ups, burpees, and a number of core exercises. I actually woke up a bit later than ever (8:15?!? Whaaaaaat!!) on Wednesday, so I knew there was no chance I was hitting up Sturdy Branches again that morning since we had breakfast at 10, and then again on Thursday morning we had an earlier breakfast because we were checking out, but I did have time for a quickie on both days! No matter where you are you can get in a workout!! You don’t need equipment to work up a sweat!
So, as you can see, I still like to keep up some type of routine while on vacation, but without putting pressure on myself. It makes for one happy Kayla, even though I am always happy when in Disney 😉 (Speaking of, today we are at the ONE MONTH mark from going back!! Yippee!!!!)
Now, go get your sweat on!!! No excuses!!
