The Comparison Trap

Happy FRIYAY!! It’s almost the weekend! Can you believe today is August 17? Like what? Summer always goes way too fast.

Are you doing anything fun this weekend? Have any last minute summer fun plans? Please share them with me! I am eager to hear šŸ˜‰

It’s been a week, ya’ll. I woke up this morning with a headache, but nothing like what it was the other night. I took some Tylenol immediately after waking up and after moving around the house for a couple minutes I loosened up and my head felt better.Ā I was able to get in a workout too! YAY! I did 5 minutes of planks and then hopped on the treadmill for a 45 minute incline walk/run. My morning after that included sipping on my Teami Skinny tea, cleaning our shower/tub, drinking my coffee, and getting ready for work. I am now at work and ready for it to be tomorrow afternoon for the weekend to begin.

True story:Ā I am still drinking coffee as usual with my tea. They say you should eliminate coffee, but helllooooo this girl cannot simply “eliminate coffee”. Could you imagine the headaches I would then have if I did that?! Oh Lord.

Like I wrote aboutĀ yesterday, I am officially starting the Teami Tea 30 Day Detox on Monday, but in the mean time I am sipping their Skinny Tea every morning and then will be adding in the Colon tea come Monday night. Are you going to join me on this detox? Don’t forget to use code: KAYLA418 to get yourself 10% off your order. šŸ˜‰

Today, I have to admit something to you, and I hope you’ll allow me to do so. I have fallen into the mean old comparison trap, and have fallen hard.

Let me explain.

I have found myself scrolling through Instagram and comparing myself to the gorgeous ladies that I see. And in doing so, I begin to pick myself apart because these girls are beautiful models who always have their stuff together. What do I mean by “having their stuff together”? Their teeth are super white and perfect, their clothes are beautiful, their hair is amazingly long and luscious, their skin looks flawless, their skinny and fit, they are ALWAYS smiling/laughing/having fun, so in my mind they are pretty much perfect. Since these beautiful people are (or seem to be) so perfect, I get these thoughts in my head that pretty much tear me apart. Why can’t I be gorgeous and skinny like her? I wish I had beautiful long, luscious hair like her. I wish my teeth were perfect and white. I wish I had an exciting life like her and was smiling and laughing all the time.Ā BLAH BLAH BLAH. Seriously. Can I shut up yet?

Like really. Can I just shut up yet?Ā Let’s take it from Theodore Roosevelt, “Comparison is the thief of joy”. Isn’t that the truth? Do you ever feel happy when you are comparing yourself to someone else? Pretty sure the answer to that is a big NO.

OnceĀ you startĀ comparing yourself to others, you pretty much feel like you aren’t “enough“. Right?Ā I’m not pretty enough. I’m notĀ skinny enough. Blah blah blah.Ā The list goes on and on.

But here is the truth: we were never meant to be like someone else, look exactly like someone else, etc. Did you know that? God didn’t create beautiful, wonderful you to be exactly like someone you see on your social media. And I’m pretty sure He didn’t create you to pick yourself apart while comparing yourself to that someone.

The other night, I actually showed my husband some of theseĀ perfect and beautifulĀ people that I follow on Instagram as I was wallowing in my “I’m so ugly”Ā picking myself apart state and do you know what my husband said to me? He told me to stop it. He told me to stop right there in my thoughts and remember who I am. Who am I? I am a child of God. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Psalm 139: 13-14 ā€œFor you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my motherā€™s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full wellā€

YOU are God’s masterpiece. And no where in the Bible does it say for you to be like so and so and look like so and so. He made you exactly the way He wanted you to be. He thinks (and knows) that YOU are amazing, wonderful, and beautiful!Ā God has a plan for YOU and you certainly won’t accomplish that plan while comparing yourself to someone else’s life. Let’s stop comparing ourselves to others and believe exactly what God believes about us. YOU are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Happy weekend, beautiful readersĀ ā™„ā™„ā™„
