My One Word For 2019

Helloooooo! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I hope you are all off to a great start for this new year! I always love when it is a new year; it’s 365 blank pages that are going to be filled with memories! And since today is HUMP DAYYYY, January 2, it is officially day 364 of 2019, what are you going to make of it? I hope you choose to make it a great day!

Now that the holidays are over and things are starting to go back to normal (wait, what is normal?) I am slowly coming out of the celebrating mode and it’s pretty sad if you ask me. I LOVE Christmas-New Year because I am celebrating almost every day from Christmas Eve to New Years Day; between Christmas and New Years we are celebrating Michael’s birthday and my mom’s! But, I can’t forget that my Dad’s birthday is next week too. But this is when things start to sink in that it is a new year, Christmas is over, and we are all back to work. Boo.

A new year always makes me feel a little anxious about living up to my expectations for the new year ahead. Even though I don’t make “resolutions” I still try to make goals for myself about the coming year. If you remember, my post last year for my “resolutions” was a bit more generalized, if you get what I mean. (Example: smile more, laugh, don’t regret anything, etc. which were all like generalized goals for the year.)

I’ve been seeing this whole “one word for the new year” thing all over social media, and I really loved this idea so I decided to take the plunge and jump on it! The whole idea is to pick one word to take you into the new year. This word summarizes your intentions for the year ahead, who you want to be or how you want live, and should be your main focus for the whole year, every day. Choosing just one word (instead of a number of resolutions) can help you keep focused and stay motivated. Because I don’t know about you, but setting more than one resolution for myself can feel daunting and overwhelming. So, this idea of picking one word to focus on for the year seems more attainable to me.

I thought long and hard about this, and then had to take some time to pause, because I slowly started to feel like I was forcing myself to come up with a word. You know when you are thinking long and hard about something, and then you start to come up with things in your head that just don’t feel “right” but more forced? Yeah. That’s what was happening to me after thinking for three days prior to the new year about what my one word would be. So, I kind of took a break with it yesterday, (Yes, I was still thinking about this yesterday.)and asked God to guide me through picking a word to take me through the year. And, after a couple hours of not thinking about it, the word finally came to me!

My one word this year is: Trust.

This word is absolutely perfect for the new year ahead of me, because this year I literally have NO IDEA what is to come. This isn’t easy. This isn’t comfortable. You know I don’t like change. You bet that is scary for me. You bet this makes me feel anxious, and nervous for what could come this year.

Trusting is NOT easy. Trusting is hard. Trusting is throwing your hands up in the air and falling to your knees when you just don’t know the plan, or when your plan has gone sideways, or when your plan takes you down the path that is extremely hard or scary, saying to God “I know You have a great plan for my life. I am trusting in You” no matter how scary, uneasy, or hard it may be. This is exactly how I feel about this new year; it isn’t easy accepting any change that may come, it isn’t easy entering a new year.

  • I am going to trust that God has a great plan for me and my life.
  • I am going to trust that I will become everything that He has created me to be.
  • I am going to trust in Him knowing that He will lead me to where I belong, for whatever is next in my life.
  • I am going to trust in the Lord with my marriage, because let’s be real…no marriage is perfect, and every marriage needs help and guidance from Him!
  • I am going to trust that He will help me through any anxiety I may have for this new year.
  • I will not doubt. I will keep my trust in Him, knowing that He will not fail me.

What is your one word for 2019? If you have thought of one for yourself, I would love to hear what your word is! 🙂

Here’s to trusting that this year will be the best one yet!! Xoxo
