Morning Routines

Helloooo friends! Happy FRIDAY! I hope you have had a great week! We have made it to the weekend, and oh my goodness I can’t believe I am tying this but not only have we made it to the weekend but we made it to the last weekend in March! What!? How did that happen? Come Monday, it will officially be my birthday month! AH! The best! Side note: If you are not one of those people that claims the whole month as your “birthday month”, than I am pretty sad for you because birthday’s are the best!! I’ve always loved my birthday, obviously, if you didn’t already know, it is basically like a national holiday. Anyways, along with the end of March, we are going to have some awesome and warm spring like weather ahead and I am so excited! It actually feels like spring outside today also but it is going to rain all day so I’m not counting today in that little “awesome and warm spring like weather” I’m talking about.

I wanted to chat with you today about morning routines. If you follow me on Instagram, maybe you already know (since I post about it every single day in my stories) that I have a morning routine and have had one for years now.

There have been numerous studies done (and many books written) that say the most successful people have morning routines. These studies show that you are more likely to be productive, less stressed and anxious (hallelujah!), healthy, and more driven which will help you reach your goals….all because you have a morning routine.

For me, my morning routine is VITAL in starting my day. If my morning routine is off, it literally just throws off my whole day and my whole mood.

Here’s a peek into what my normal morning routine is like:
Wake up around 6ish
Read my devotional
Coffee/Live with Kelly & Ryan (on week days)/Blog
& Breakfast

Now, this will change if I have to be somewhere early in the morning (an appointment, church, etc.) but even so my morning will include most of this, and will always start with a workout to get my body moving no matter what.

I wasn’t always one to have a morning routine until I went to college and knew that I needed to get myself into a routine. I found that waking up early in the morning to workout (even if that meant waking up at 4:45am every week day because of classes, I did it!), shower and actually get ready for the day, and take my time drinking my coffee REALLY changed the way my days went compared to rushing out of the door to get to class, throwing my hair up, grabbing a coffee on my way, and working out later in the day.

I know it may sound silly but these studies that prove that having a morning routine makes you more successful/more mindful are CORRECT, my friends. I can’t stress it enough. If you are one that doesn’t have a morning routine and you are totally fine in your life without one, then hey that’s fine with me too, but I am serious when I say my day is 100 times better when I start my day with my normal morning routine. If you don’t have one already, I challenge you to wake up at last an hour earlier than usual to do whatever you want to do (read, workout, relax, watch tv, blog, journal, whatever you want to do) and see what it does for your mindset and your overall mood and happiness in that one day.

I’d be lying if I said that it was easy to wake up early(ish) every day to workout and spend some extra time in the morning even though I don’t physically have to go into work, but it is WORTH IT. I promise you. I own my day. I am in charge of how my day is going to go. If I am off on my morning routine I feel rushed. I feel out of control. I feel like I don’t know what is going to happen and who knows if I will get a workout in later on. Having a morning routine means that I am taking advantage of MY time and having some ME time. Having a morning routine means that I am setting my day up to be great, and to be filled with positivity!

Have a fabulous weekend, loves! XOXO

Do you have a morning routine?
I’d love to hear yours!

  1. Hi good morning! I usually get up around 5:30am and walked for one hour at empty stomach (try to aim at least 10k steps) then took my multi vitamin and make my coffee smoothie along with frozen banana, spinach, cocoa and protein powder so I can bring it with me to work. Then when I get home from work I usually ride my bike for one hour then eat dinner then walk with the dog for 30 minutes or more. Then I allow myself to rest for one hour before bedtime.

    1. Love your routine!! Thanks for sharing Elizabeth!! Hope you’re having a great week! Xoxo

  2. I love your morning routine. Mine is similar … I enjoy starting the day with a workout 6 days a week, but unlike you there is generally 1 day a week where I skip the workout and give my body a break. My routine on workout days = wake-up, check work email and respond as needed, review my meeting schedule for the day, get dressed, prep food for the day, head to the gym, workout, come home, get showered/dressed, throw in a load of laundry, sit down at the computer and deal with work stuff, eat brunch (I am not a huge lunch person so I just kind of combine). After brunch my day is rolling and I am feeling good! What is something you would/could change in your daily routine if you HAD to?

    1. Thanks girl! Your morning routine sounds great!! I have no idea what I would change in my routine. That’s a tough one, especially since I am so used to this routine now! 🙂
