10 Things That Help Ease My Anxiety For The New Week Ahead

Oh Monday, we meet again. Sometimes, especially yesterday, I wish we had a pause button on the weekend and could live it out in slow motion. Anyone feel me on that?

If you are anything like me, maybe you feel like the weekend is too short and feels rushed before the new week comes and before you know it, Monday smacks you in the face. Does this sound familiar? I know these feelings all too well and by the time 5pm hits on Sunday evening, the Sunday Scaries start to creep in and I am hit with anxious feelings about the week ahead. Maybe these feelings come on because I don’t feel prepared for the week, or because I am just dreading going to work again, but either way, I hate feeling like this.

Last week was such a struggle for me; every day I had a headache and would come home from work to just lay down for the rest of the day from feeling so icky. To be honest, work wasn’t that great and I just felt stressed out and anxious, which is probably the cause of those headaches (obviously). The weekend was great (it involved workouts, time with my husband, time with my family, shopping, church, putting the tree up…honestly, it was lovely!) but once 4:30 hit yesterday afternoon I was feeling sick to my stomach and overall anxious about the week ahead. Instead of whining about it and sulking in misery for the rest of the day, I tried to turn it around by doing a couple things. Curious about what those things are? Lucky for you, today I am sharing 10 things that help ease my anxiety about the new week ahead! I know it might be silly to share on Monday morning because essentially I do these things on Sunday, but maybe you are blessed with another day off today or you can just save some of these things and do it the next time you are feeling anxious for the week or day ahead.

10 Things That Help Ease My Anxiety For The New Week Ahead

Pray. If you are new around here, welcome! I am so happy you are here. Prayer will always be on every and any list for me because it is so important to ask our Father for help and let’s be real, praying helps me feel better no matter what. Don’t know where to start? Just ask God to help you through your week and ask Him to give you strength for anything and everything that is going to come your way this week ahead of you.

Plan! Plan for your week ahead. Write in your planner or calendar your whole entire week ahead; including your work days, your workouts, your meetings, your night outs, etc. Doing this visually helps prepare you for your week ahead and I don’t know about you but I do well with visuals, so if you are like me, this can help calm those nerves and anxiety.

Write out your top priorities for the week. Knowing what you want to prioritize will help you to focus on them.

Listen to music, specifically Christmas music. What? Too soon? Never. Okay but really, listen to any music that you love that will instantly make you happy. Maybe you can even have a mini dance party in your bedroom, because we all know that I am 100% on board with having dance parties in your bedroom at any time of day.

Clean your house/apartment/room/whatever you want to clean. Cleaning helps my anxiety. Doing laundry, cleaning, dusting, folding, organizing…anything that involves housework helps calm me down.

Watch a movie, and of course I am going to say watch a Hallmark Movie! But really, watch a feel good movie or one of your favorites to help take your mind off of the week ahead.

Do something good for yourself; do a workout, put on a face mask, take a bath, do your hair….anything that makes YOU feel good.

Read, write, journal, blog…any or all of the above. Read a good book, write your feelings down in a journal, write a blog post…whatever it is, write (or type) your feelings down. Doing this always helps me center my mind.

Pick out your outfits for the week, or for the next day. Luckily I can still wear my everyday outfits of leggings and a sweatshirt or sweater to work, but picking my outfits before that morning really helps ease my anxiety.

Breathe. Seriously, just breathe. Breathing always calms me down.
